Madhur Bhandarkar’s Jail has been cleared by the censor board after seven cuts.
Madhur Bhandarkar is known for his confrontation with the censor board. Most of his films, whether it was Page 3 or Fashion have taken a dig at the system and have had difficulty in getting passed by the censor board.
So, it certainly wasn’t a new experience for Madhur when the censor board raised objection to his new film Jail. Reports suggest that the censor board has eventually cleared Jail but not before it suggested seven cuts and gave the film a U/A certificate.
According to a source, “The censor board was very strict. Seven scenes, including a love-making scene between Neil and Mugdha Godse, a homosexual scene, a sex joke and Neil’s nude scene, have all been removed. Abusive dialogues have also been deleted from the film. Though Madhur was not ready to give into the demands of the censor board, he couldn’t do much because, he was also not ready to release the film with an A certificate.”
Masdhur did argue with the censor board over some scenes like one of the much talked about controversial scene of Neil, but when he realized that by giving in some of the demands of the board, rather than an A certificate, he could get an U/A certificate for the film, he gave into some of these demands.
Sources in the censor board say that they had loved the film and were ready to pass the film without any cut but alongside, they wanted to give it an Adult only certificate. But ultimately, in order to get more viewers to cinema halls to watch the film, it was cleared from the censor board with an U/A certificate only.
