Movie Review: Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani

Whereas every good director has the capability of making great movies, there are only a few directors, who can make all kinds of films, whether it’s a comedy, a romantic film, a serious drama or an action film with the same perfection. With Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Raj Kumar Santoshi has once again proved that he is one such director.

The great aspect of this film is the perfect mixture of romance and comedy, which has been depicted on the screen with great perfection. Especially the way romance has been depicted in the film, makes you feel like falling in love all over again.

This story starts with Prem (Ranbir Kapoor), who runs a Happy Club and believes being happy and keeping others happy. In an attempt to help a close friend, Prem by mistake kidnaps Jenny [Katrina Kaif].  Though Jenny is initially not happy with what Prem has done, she gradually starts understanding him. Whereas, Jenny treats him as a good friend, Prem falls in love with her. But, before he can say anything, he comes to know that Jenny has been adopted by her parents, who want to marry her off to someone she doesn’t like. Prem, on being told by Jenny that she loves another boy Upen Patel , helps both of them to unite since, Upen’s father is also against his son’s marriage with Jenny. 

The first hour of the film is simply great. Though the second hour is also equally good, there are certain parts in the second hour like the kidnapping scene, which takes place so suddenly that they look slightly out of sorts. The final portion of the film looks more like a love triangle.

With Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Raj Kumar Santoshi has come up with a film that the youth would relate to and love. Apart from a great story and a great script, Raj Kimar’s Santoshi’s direction is worth praising.

The film’s music is foot-tapping and goes well with the film.

The performances by both Ranbir and Katrina are par excellence. The two have been supported well by Darshan Jariwala, Smita Jaykar, Upen Patel, Namdeo, Zakir Hussain and Navneet Nishan.

On a whole, good story, good acting, good music, good direction and the fact that it’s a film for the youth, should ensure that Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani does well at the Box office.
