‘Peepli Live’ begins its journey of fame and recognition

An Aamir Khan’s film naturally raises expectations and awe from the audience before it hits the screens. And his forthcoming ‘Peepli Live’ has already started its journey of fame and recognition with bagging in the Best First Feature Film award at the 31st Durban International Film Festival in South Africa.
“Peepli Live has been awarded the Best First Feature Film at the Durban International Film Festival. Everyone is ecstatic about the win. The honour means a great deal, especially considering that Anusha Rizvi is a first time director,” said an official statement from Aamir Khan Productions adding, “Peepli Live is an ambitious and well-realised film that deals with serious political issues in a witty and entertaining manner. It creates an enchanting world of colourful characters, images and music that engrosses viewers throughout.”
Directed by debutante Anusha Rizvi and distributed by UTV Motion Pictures, the movie is slated to hit the screens August 13. The film also stars Omkar Das Manikpuri, Raghubir Yadav, Naseeruddin Shah, Malaika Shenoy, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Shalini Vatsa, Farrukh Jaffer, Vishal O. Sharma, Aamir Bashir, Sitaram Panchal and Yugal Kishore.
The movie is about two impoverished farmers – Natha (Omkar Das Manikpuri) and Budhia (Raghubir Yadav) – who live in a village called Peepli. They are about to lose their land due to debts when an incompetent politician suggests they commit suicide to get government help. The news spreads and the media turns Natha into a celebrity.

Though Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor will be seen together first time on-screen in ‘Anjaana Anjaani’, their chemistry is already getting rave reviews. ‘Fear Factor 3′ kick starts with Priyanka and the thirteen contestants

The two seasons of The Fear Factor were a major hit on the smaller screen and now, the next season is ready after much hype, controversies and guesses. If Akshay Kumar being replaced by Piggie Chops was not enough, there will be thirteen male contestants wooing Priyanka with their stunts and daredevilry. First, the season was to have thirteen cricketers as the contestants but with leading cricketers making unannounced exit from the programme, the makers had to make replacements and the final list of the contestants is ready now with many impressive names in it.

Producers are not happy with Katrina

Filmmakers Abbas and Mustan Burmawala are upset with Katrina Kaif’s attitude and the manner of her departure from their first home production, a remake of The Italian Job. She had even given her dates for the film.
When asked Abbas and Mustan about their reaction to Katrina’s walkout from The Italian Job, they said, We are shocked, hurt and extremely disappointed with Katrina’s behaviour. We never expected her to behave like this with us. We have worked with many big stars from Shahrukh Khan to Akshay Kumar but this is the first time that anyone has behaved so unprofessionally with us. We have never hurt anybody and never spoken ill about anyone. Neither do we intend to do that now but we are still in shock as to why Katrina walked out after liking and approving the script and saying yes to it.However, it seems the ambitious actress has ditched them for Yashraj Films’ upcoming flick opposite Imran Khan. It so happened that two week ago, the director duo called her for some pre production work but she ignored their calls. They first assumed that she might be busy and were expecting her to call back but that didn’t happen. After repeated messages her secretary informed that she won’t be able to do their film as she has signed Yashraj Films.
The fuming producers are now looking for a quick replacement and are also approaching producers association to get back the hefty sum that they have paid the actress in advance.Although their last film ‘Seven Days In Paris’ got shelved due to some issues in script and same has been the problem with ‘Italian Job’.

Hrithik and Priyanka to come together for ‘Agneepath’ remake

Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra had last appeared together on-screen five years back with ‘Krrish’ and the duo exuded excellent chemistry together. Now, Dharma Productions has decided to bring the two together for the remake of ‘Agneepath’ where Hrithik is to play the lead role of Vijay Dinanath Chavan.
‘Angeepath’ will be directed by debutant Karan Malhotra and Priyanka will play Hrithik’s love interest played by Madhavi in the original film.
It may be mentioned here that the original ‘Agneepath’ was produced by Karan Johar’s father Yash Johar. Karan has made just a few minor changes to the script, to suit the contemporary time. However, the dialogues originally penned down by Kader Khan will remain the same. Sadly, Mithun Chakraborty’s south Indian character which was a landmark role in itself will be missing in this remake.

It is raining praises for Ajay Devgan and Kangana Ranaut

With Ajay Devgan and Kangana Ranaut starrer ‘Once Upon a time in Mumbai’ getting praises from all and sundry there could be no other time apt for the duo to appear on the cover page of a glossy magazine than this. Kangana and Ajay can be seen striking a pose for the cover of the August issue of ‘Cineblitz’ this month.
The movie is an out and out director’s film where Milan Lutharia extracts the best out of his actors. Set in 1970s, the flick takes us to the 1970s, the era of bell-bottoms and sideburns when revolvers were a rarity and automatic pistols a thing of the future. Arguably, this is Devgan’s best till date. His silences, his seething expressions, piercing gazes, reflective musings lend tons of gravitas to his character Sultan Mirza. Kangana Ranaut and Prachi Desai deliver well from the sidelines along with Emraan Hashmi who has given a flawless performance.

Neil Nitin Mukesh to smooch Deepika in ‘Lafangey Parindey’

Talking about Neil Nitin Mukesh, the young star does not seem to be very comfortable with smooch scenes in his film. Be it his first director Sriram Raghavan, who could not convince Neil to kiss Rimi Sen, or his second film, Tera Kya Hoga Johnny, director Sudhir Mishra where Neil was asked to kiss Shahana Goswami and then again his director for ‘Jail’ where the actor refused to lock lips with Mugdha Godse even during a passionate love making scene- all his directors failed to convince Neil to do the act.
However, Pradeep Sarkar, the director of ‘Lafangey Parindey’, made his point clear to Neil that he had to smooch Deepika Padukone for the film as per the demand of the script. Well, so Neil would now be seen smooching Deepika in ‘LP’, and how, we have the little birdie informing us that the lip-lock surely is pretty long and intense. A source from the set said it was a long, torrid smooch comparable in intensity and duration to any sensational smooch scene so far. And guess what! Neil was nervous!

Priyanka Chopra sacrifices her role for the sake of ‘Silence’

Director Anurag Basu came up with the strong and powerful subject in ‘Silence’, but the movie has been suffering delay due to the starry issues of the female actresses. Earlier Priyanka Chopra was supposed to play the lead role in the film, but when Asin and Katrina Kaif who were earlier chosen for equally pivotal roles in the film chose to opt out fearing that they would be sidelines with Priyanka playing the plum role, the project’s future seemed to be at dismay. It was then that Piggie Chops decided to take action as she felt that ‘Silence’ is too powerful a project to be stalled. So, she took a step which no leading actress would dare to and she decided to swap roles and go for the one which was comparatively weaker so that the project moved further.
Now, PC essays a mentally challenged person alongside Ranbir Kapoor, who enacts a deaf mute guy in the hero and director Anurag Basu intends to take Priyanka Chopra to a mental asylum to help her get into the skin of her role.
Confirming the news, Priyanka said, “I will start shooting for Anurag’s Silence in January 2011 after completing Don 2. I am preparing for my role. I need to undergo training to perform the role perfectly. I am happy to get such a challenging role, which many of my age do not get.”
