First Look: Student of the Year

Karan Johar created history with his blockbuster ‘Kuch Kuch Hota hai’, which was based on a college set up and with this movie, he had launched Rani Mukherjee who went on to become a great star later.
Now, KJo is all set to launch Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter Alia Bhatt and David Dhawan’s son Varun Dhawan in his next project ‘Student of the Year’ which is again based on college setting and is a romantic comedy.
Karan Johar’s long time friend and best buddy Shahrukh Khan is co-producing the film with him and the promotion of flick has started online as Karan Johar posted the first look of the film on his Twitter account. The poster features the young actors Varun, Siddharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt. Varun and Siddharth already have an experience in film-making as they have assisted various directors.
Check out the first look of the film…………..

First Look: Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Ra.1′

There is no denying the fact that Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Ra 1’ happens to be one of the most awaited projects in the year 2011. The movie has seen a lot of efforts from Shahrukh Khan who has been missing from the big screens after My Name Is Khan in February last year. Adding to the success quotient of the film is the fact that it is one of this year’s Diwali releases.
Analyst Komal Nahta of Film Information explains, “The film has kept Shah Rukh on his toes. It’s his most ambitious project so far and one of the most expensive films made in Bollywood. Heavy special effects and constant comparison with Robot have heightened expectations.”
Made under the banner of Red Chillies Entertainment, this sci-fi film will present SRK as G. One. Touted to be a superhero fantasy, SRK plays a normal guy living in London with his family. A twist in the plot turns him into a superhero.
The movie has been directed by Anubhav Sinha and produced by SRK himself. Apart from the superstar, the film has Arjun Rampal, Shahana Goswami and Kareena Kapoor.

No One Killed Jessica Review

No One Killed Jessica
Director
Rajkumar Gupta
Cast
Vidya Balan, Rani Mukerji, Neil Bhoopalam, Myra, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub

By Sonia Chopra

The film doesn’t start with the Jessica Lall murder case immediately. In fact, it beats around the bush for far too long.
Rani Mukerji’s Meera Geyti is a firebrand TV journalist and her voiceover starts the film. The character talks about Delhi and how she hasn’t yet managed to figure out the city. But she does feel the city is drunk on power and “everybody’s a somebody in Delhi”.

Geyti is covering the Kargil war and ticking off curious air passengers who thank her for the entertaining coverage. We like her immediately.

Her character is delicately nuanced (even if slightly exaggerated) - whether it’s smoking on the terrace of her home, shouting for pickle at dinner while watching the news, or her straightforward manner of talking.

She’s a delight, and more so is Rani Mukerji essaying the part. A powerhouse actor anyway, Mukerji raises the bar giving one of her career’s most honest and memorable performances.

Equally evocative is the underplayed performance by Vidya Balan as Jessica’s sister Sabrina. While Mukerji’s story track comes alive only in the second half of the movie, Balan is present throughout.

The story slowly veers towards the fateful night when a minister’s son and his friends shoot model Jessica Lall for refusing to serve them a drink. Sabrina finds an ally in an honest cop (Rajesh Sharma, fab), but the odds seem stacked against them.

The film then trails the case over the years with witnesses threatened, justice delayed, and ultimately denied. But Sabrina, who is all set to give up, finds a new ray of hope.

One of the most priceless scenes of the film is where the murderer’s ghoonghat-clad mother tells her minister husband “kuch bhi karo, mere Monu ko kuch nahin hona chahiye”. But did this important (it speaks volumes about the murderer’s upbringing) scene need to be repeated thrice?

Repetition is a recurring issue in the film. The fact that Geyti mistakes the Jessica story to be a simple case is also reiterated several times.

Another sore point with the film is the portrayal of high-society as caricatures. It is hard to believe that a socialite would sit in a police station and ask for the AC to be switched on.

Rajkumar Gupta, who directed the film Aamir in 2008 doesn’t want the viewer to be bogged down by the subject. His effort in injecting drama and tempo in the storytelling makes the film accessible to a mainstream audience. But the pace slackens at times.

One of the film’s stronger points is Amit Trivedi’s addictive music whether it’s the Dilli Dilli or the Aali Re song. Disappointingly, the songs aren’t propped up the way you expect after watching the promos.

But on the upside, there are some superb touches like Sabrina’s journey of meeting the witnesses portrayed through food, the awkward scene between the parents of the perpetrator and the victim, and the candlelight march.

The performances by the central cast are superlative, and equally praiseworthy is a massive performance by the supporting cast.

No One Killed Jessica is not as audacious and pacy as the promos would have you believe. But the film manages to do one very crucial thing: it evokes your sentiments. You feel empathy, rage, helplessness, and triumph at every step of the way with our two female heroes.

So even if there are a few flaws, the film moves you. And nothing is above that. A must-watch!

Aishwarya is not comfortable with her steamy scene in ‘Guzaarish’ with Hrithik

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan share a sparking chemistry on-screen and their steamy lip lock in blockbuster ‘Dhoom 2’ had created stirs nationwide, so much so that father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan had the makers of the film delete the scene.
Once again, Bachchan Bahu is in a dilemma for her forthcoming release ‘Guzaarish’ with Hrithik again has a steamy scene between the two actors which could create an uncomfortable situation for her when the movie hits the screens. Sources reveal that Aishwarya has had a debate with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali over deleting the scene from the film and though the filmmaker is not sure whether or not to have it removed from ‘Guzaarish’, chances are there that the hot and intimate scene would be removed in the best interests of everyone.
Now, whether the interest of the leading lady wins over the interest of the film, is all to be waited and watched….

Ajay Devgan out to impress his fans with new stunts and look in ‘Golmaal 3′

Director Rohit Shetty has made it sure that Ajay Devgan’s entry in ‘Golmaal 3’ is no less than his impressive and grand entry in the earlier sequels “Golmaal: Fun Unlimited” and “Golmaal Returns”. In “Golmaal: Fun Unlimited”, released in 2006, Ajay made his entry on a sports bike and in the 2008 “Golmaal Returns” he balanced himself on two Hummer cars. In the latest one, Ajay will be seen making an entry balancing himself on two vintage cars driven on two wheels each. The cars will be bright pink and yellow in colour.
Ajay has also sported a brand new rugged look for the film with diamond ear studs, tattoos and cropped hair. Kareena Kapoor sports a tomboy look, Tusshar Kapoor has a  tapori look and Arshad Warsi too has experimented with his looks.
“I wanted all the characters to have different looks in G3. For Ajay (who plays Gopal again), I wanted a character that looked different from everything he has done. He has been working hard on his body a lot, so we will have him flaunting his body. He plays a hyper character who loses his temper very quickly, because of which everyone is scared of him. People never know what he will laugh about or get angry about.” Shetty said.
Ajay Devgan’s tattoos have been designed by Aalim’s studio. “Vishwas from my salon designed the tattoo on Ajay’s neck but the concept and choice was Ajay’s. The tattoo is of a Celtic or tribal trishul. No actor in India has got a tattoo made on the neck.” Aalim said.
“We have given Ajay the buzz cut, a more macho, masculine and grungy look than he normally sports. We were waiting for all his film shoots to get over before we could give him this look as otherwise it would have continuity problems. He took a keen interest in the whole look and styling.” Aalim added.
